A dreamy summer mix peppered with LUCID pop awakenings.

Sydney DJ and Deep Seahorse podcast curator Jimmy Brus sees out the year with a lush aural journey featuring Bjork, Lee Jones, Todd Terje and Bruce Springsteen.

Can you tell us a bit about your journey into electronic music and DJing? When did you first discover electronic music?

My first job in Sydney was working in a warehouse where I met some cats from Bristol who introduced me to Massive Attack, Tricky as well as the seminal album Northern Exposure by Sasha and Digweed. From then on you'd find me at The Boiler Room at Big Day Out or blissing out to Nick Warren at Parklife. Eventually I got to travel through Europe seeking out the best clubs and festivals and on my return started on the ones and twos.

How did you decide to approach your mix? Was there a concept behind it?

I wanted it to have a kind of dream logic flowing quickly from one state to another. Featuring vocals that jump out but never really disappear echoing around in your head.

Are there any particularly special tracks or moments in there for you?

The Bruce Springsteen edit by Dead Rose Music Company. I went to see him play in London during the riots. There was some kind of commotion before the set and everyone was ushered out. The owner sympathised with us being all the way from Australia and not being able to see the gig locked down the club and gave us a great night. Still haven't seen him play live.

What’s on the cards for you DJ wise in 2021?

Hopefully to get all the sounds in my head out to the people again and start booking some legends.

Name your go-to album or mix compilation for chilling out.
